Newborn Session Prep Guide
Thank you for the honor of photographing your little bundle of joy.
Bellow you will find lots of helpful information to make your session a success.
I have put together these tips after working with dozens of newborns and parents. I want to create the most beautiful photos for your family. By carefully reading the following information and preparing for your session, you will be helping me do that for you.
Please know that your experience is the most important thing for me, I want to make this a perfect day for you.
FOR THE BABY:
The morning of the Session:
The following instructions are suggestions only. You know your baby best, so some of these instructions may not be possible. However, I have found that these tips work WONDERFULLY to help make the most of our time together for a successful session. Please don’t stress if you can not do everything perfectly. Sometimes things don’t go as planned, and I totally understand this is a crazy time for your family! However, willing to alter your schedule just a bit for the day can help make your session a success.
If you can, bathe your child before coming to the studio and dress him/her in loose fitting clothes that are easy to be removed.
If you leave close by (less then 30 minutes), feed your baby before coming to the studio, otherwise, you are welcome to feed your Baby as soon as you arrive in our Studio.
If you are nursing and pumping, please bring a couple of bottles of expressed milk. If you are using formula, please bring extra formula! More than you think you will need! Babies tend to feed more than usual at the session.
What to have handy:
- Bring the blanket that your baby is used to sleep with. And an extra one to cover the changing table.
- Extra diapers are always a good idea; newborn size so is not bulky for the pictures.
- If your baby has a lot of hair, bring her comb or hairbrush;
- Do not forget the pacifier, if you have one at home. We might use it for a few seconds if needed.
WHAT PARENTS SHOULD WEAR:
Mom:
Wear white, cream, black, neutrals or pastels because they photograph beautifully against your baby's skin tone. White is timeless and complements the newness and innocence of the baby. Neutrals work well to keep the attention on the baby and away from your clothing. Pastels also have that “new baby” look and are great if you want to coordinate your outfits with the nursery.
I want you to be comfortable and feel good during your session so avoid any tight-fitting tops. A long flowy maxi dress is always cute! I also love a top or long sleeved top over leggings or stretchy skinny jeans. Don't be afraid to wear your maternity pants for newborn photos, comfort and easy is key!
Dad:
For dad, I recommend jeans and a neutral t-shirt, polo shirt or a button-down shirt. Make sure you are able to roll the sleeves and leave the shirt untucked. And please no large logos.
AFTER YOUR SESSION:
The photos from your session will be presented to you in a private online proofing gallery. I will email you the link to access this gallery within a couple of days after your session. From your gallery, you will be able to “heart” and select your favorites. The amount of images you may select depends on the package you choose. Once you choose the images you would like to have edited (please email me to let me know you’ve finalized your selections), I will then edit them perfectly and send those to you with a print release! (please allow around 3 weeks to be completed.)
If your Package includes print, I will then send them to print and mail it to you when is ready.
Your notification email will contain instructions on how to download your files, (it is quick and easy!)
Thank you for reading our PREP GUIDE and we look forward to meeting your Family.
